Businesses which run search engine optimisation (SEO) and pay per click marketing campaigns may well be aware of the role keyword research plays in their success, but keywords should also play a part in the architecture of a website, it has been suggested.

Google has continued to lead the way in search engine popularity, ahead of its competitors such as Bing and Yahoo!, but its true competition may come from social networks, including Twitter, Wikipedia and Facebook, one sector commentator has claimed.

As social networks continue to grow in popularity - which may have led to many businesses launching a social media marketing campaign, it has been suggested that the only way such platforms can generate money themselves is by selling data.

Such is the assertion of Neil Stapley, founder of Dadooda.com - a content networking site - who said such thinking was the general consensus and that monetisation of information is the way forward for social networks.

Retailers looking to expand a social media marketing campaign may find that their key audience is already online, after new research revealed that mums are using social networks more than the average adult.

The study conducted by BIGresearch for the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association (RAMA) revealed that women at home who have children are more likely to use Facebook (60.3 per cent) than the average adult (50.2 per cent).
