The Maturing Relationship Between Social and Mobile

The relationship between mobile and social is one that is getting stronger according to comScore, which is interesting as we approach Christmas. The stats provided by comScore are based on the US but it is a good barometer of the direction this particular relationship is headed in.

The headline statistic shows that nearly 40 million users access social networks on a daily basis. The term social network applies to all the famous players, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube but it is also applicable to blogs too.

This connection between the two mediums emphasises a growing reliance we are placing on them. It should also suggest to businesses the value of having a presence on both.

Mobile Making Its Mark

It is hard to say which is driving the other as they both exist independently. However, mobile is really starting to make its mark.

From a UK perspective, statistics taken earlier in the year pertaining to the second quarter of 2011, suggest year-on-year growth in mobile searches is up 207% with mobile queries forming 14% of total search traffic; this was at 5% a year ago.
