Reports are suggesting that the brain trust at Twitter are considering introducing Facebook-style pages for brands in bid to give them more prominence on the micro-blogging site.
Twitter CEO Dick Costolo and President of Revenue Adam Bain are reportedly trying an initiative that will allow brands to have a page designed to keep people up-to-date with their news and encourage them to follow.
Facebook Success the Stimulus
The success of the Facebook brand pages has perhaps encouraged this move. It is one of the noticeable exclusions on Twitter where brands can only sponsor tweets, hashtags and lists.
On the other hand, the appeal of Twitter is that it is built around constant conversations and giving a section of the site a corporate image might detract from its spontaneous nature.
It remains to be seen if this initiative is a success and whether or not we will be seeing brand pages on Twitter soon.
