If September’s news focused on the launch of Google Instant, then much of what was discussed in October centred on the value of the internet and the growing importance of mobile marketing.
As ever, market share featured in the news and October saw Bing and Yahoo! lose some of this to Google in the US. The Bing/Yahoo! partnership dipped by 2%, largely because of a poor performance by Yahoo!
With plenty of fanfare and a rather dramatic advert the Windows 7 phone has finally arrived. It is thought that this phone will firmly place Microsoft in the mobile market rat race. It could also have an impact on the search market too.
Appreciating the Huge Value of the Internet
In a major piece of news, a report commissioned by Google suggests that the internet is a £100billion market in the UK. Furthermore, the market is expected to grow by 10% each year – demonstrating the major influence it is likely to have.
Finally, we just had to mention this. Google Street View never seems to be far from controversy and issues of privacy so when Google CEO Eric Schmidt joked that, if you don’t like Google taking pictures of your house “just move” you can imagine the furore that followed.
