Adopting a particular persona when writing content for websites can prove beneficial to search engine optimisation (SEO), it has been suggested.
Julie Joyce makes the assertion in an article for Search Engine Land and explains that targeting a specific audience can help to yield positive results.
She warns, though, that there exists a balance between approaching niche readers while retaining widespread appeal.
"Personas make use of the ethnographic method in SEO and are intensely valuable," Ms Joyce comments.
"This process helps you learn about your audience and mindset."
Once the writer's own personality has been put to one side, she claims that readers in the target group may be more specifically catered for within website content.
Matt McGee also notes on Search Engine Land that Google appears to be refining its ability to distinguish between different types of content on web pages - rather than simply segregating results by filetype.
He explains that there is evidence of Google detecting blog posts, as opposed to fixed website content, which could be the first step towards being able to filter search results by type.
