Bing-Hoo Loses Market Share to Google

Bing-hoo’s impact on Google’s market share has decreased despite positive movement last month. New statistics from Hitwise Experian puts Google’s market share of search in the US during September 2010 at 72%, a 1% increase when measured against August 2010.

Bing powered search, which now includes both Bing and Yahoo!, was at 23.64%, a 2% drop on the previous month. The reason for this decrease was the poor performance of Yahoo, which lost 5% of the market share, shrinking from 14.28% in August 2010 to 13.54% in September.Hitwise Search Market Share

Long Tail Searches Increase

Search engines remain the most popular source for people trying to find things online. The information from Hitwise also picked up on the trend of using long tail searches, with eight or more word searches increasing by 4%.

This could change though when Google Instants becomes more familiar across the net.
