Yahoo! Bing Now Take Up 25% of Search Market

August figures from Experian Hitwise suggest little change in the search market share with Google still considerably dominating. However, the new Yahoo! Bing alliance constitutes 25% of the market.

It is a decent starting point, which will encourage people at the respective firms; however the lack of positive movement from each will be a worry.

An Encouraging Starting Point

According to Hitwise’s information, Google had 71.59% of all US searches in August 2010, marginally higher than the 71.43% recorded in July 2010.

Yahoo! recorded 14.28% which was down on 14.43% in July and Bing had 9.87% - the tiniest increase from July’s 9.86%. Combined the two search engines have just fewer than 25% of the market share, which means one in four searches is through them. This is encouraging an encouraging position and one they will hope to improve on.
