Making use of advanced operators in Google searches can complement website analytics, it has been claimed.
Writing for Search Engine Journal, Ann Smarty explains that a number of the additional options in Google can provide illuminating website statistics.
For instance, adding the site:yourdomain.com operator can reveal which pages have been crawled and which are yet to be indexed.
Ms Smarty notes that one of the simplest forms of website analytics to conduct using the search engine is to query the URL of the site itself.
She points out that, if other pages which mention or link to a site are appearing above it in the rankings, something may have gone wrong.
Her advice includes searching for inanchor:keyword or intitle:keyword with the site:yourdomain.com operator to reveal which pages are performing best in search engine optimisation terms.
The article expands upon previous guidance given by Google Webmaster Central blogger John Mueller.
He recommended that larger sites check their website statistics in order to identify any errors produced by content management systems.
