Facebook Surpasses 500 Million Users Mark

Is there any end to Facebook’s growth? It doesn’t appear so after Wednesday (21 July 2010) saw them pass the 500 million users mark. That is the equivalent of 8% of the world’s population!

It has only been five months since we were talking about Facebook reaching 400 million users and overtaking Google and now we are discussing 500 million users. At this level of growth we won’t have to wait long for them to reach a billion users.

A Billion Users in Three to Five Years

In fact Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, believes that the site will have over one billion users in the next three-five years. It’s a bold statement but you’d be hard-pressed to question his prediction in light of this rapid growth. A statement on the Facebook blog read:

“Our mission at Facebook is to help make the world more open and connected. I want to thank you for being part of making Facebook what it is today and for spreading it around the world.”
