Google have unveiled a new faster version of their web browser, Chrome, which they hope will speed up its growing market share. The announcement of the new beta version comes hot on the heels of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer dropping below 60% market share.
The statistics come from Net Applications and suggest that people are becoming more educated about alternatives on the market. Google are hoping to tap into this with, what they describe as, “Chrome’s most significant speed and performance increases to date.”
Furthermore, on the Google Chrome blog, they suggest performance of Chome’s SunSpider and V8 benchmarks has improved by 305% and 213% respectively since the first beta.
Faster Performance and More features
Chrome’s momentum in the web browser market has seen them grow a 6.7% share, leaving them in third place behind Firefox with 24.5% and Internet Explorer with 59.9%.
Chrome and Firefox continue to take market share away from IE because people are more concerned about security and don’t trust IE as much anymore.
As well as improving speed, this latest beta version of Chrome boasts some additional features like the popular bookmark synching across multiple computers and Geolocation APIs.
The race for web browser market share is certainly heating up.
