Whisper it quietly but is Internet advertising coming of age? The growth in the market over the past couple of years might suggest so.
As economies baulked under the weight of the most recent recession – the worst in the UK since the 1930’s – marketing and advertising budgets were drastically cut. However, according to research by Nielsen, Internet ad spend grew when compared against 2008’s figures.
In 2009 online ad spend was £506.3 billion, which was 9.7% higher than 2008’s £461.4 billion. Additionally, 80% of the UK’s top 100 online advertisers increased their Internet ad spend. Much of this growth is attributed to advertisers getting tangible ROI that they can measure whilst using cost effective services.
Mobile Marketing is a Rapidly Growing Sector
Mobile Internet was one sector that was identified as a growing online ad spend option. Although still only relatively small, mobile advertising is on the upturn and looks set to play a major part in the future of digital services.
The influx of smartphones into the markets is creating a fresh and dynamic market that advertisers are looking to successfully exploit.
