There is plenty of talk at the moment about are you getting your content out to the right audiences but, whilst this is vital for your material, are you producing the right kind of content?
For many, putting together material falls down at simply having a blog or news section that is regularly updated with generic material without any intrinsic value to the reader. With the continued growth of social media platforms, the relevance of having up-to-date and rich content is growing. Especially as some of the conventional news platforms will begin charging for their material.
Times are a Changing
This past week The Times have announced that they will begin to start charging for their content online from June 1st 2010.
This could mark a shift in the availability and access to news material and content on a free basis. It also offers other sites, adopting a horizontal approach to content, a chance to draw more traffic and coverage to their site(s).
Stay Relevant with Rich Content
Having blogs and news sections are a great way to turn over regular articles that are optimised for SEO. However, these should also be seen as a prime opportunity for you to offer readers valuable information. So,
- Be creative with the style and content of your blogs and articles, but obviously within the tone of voice of the site.
- Stay up-to-date with the market(s) you work in so that you can provide content that is relevant and valuable to readers. This is particularly important with the advent of social media and real-time search results.
- Understand what your readers and their peers want to know about and don’t be shy about expanding your scope of material.
- Consider other forms of content like press releases, rich content with a value to readers posted on external sites will help to increase quality links to your site.
- Don’t limit your material to just written content, consider video material.
So before you start worrying about getting your content to the right audiences, worry about producing the right kind of content – this should make the former quandary easier.
