Google Caffeine Goes Off the Boil

Delays continue to stall Google Caffeine’s launch with the latest forecasts predicting months, not weeks, before it is rolled out on all data centres.

The de facto poster boy for Google and software engineer, Matt Cutts, stated this week that “things are on track” and that they “expect to roll out Caffeine to all data centres in the coming months.”

The interesting word used there is “months”. Prior to Christmas, and as has been exhaustively blogged about, Mr. Cutts claimed that Google Caffeine would be rolled out “after the holidays”.

It’s Been Months and Still No Sign of Caffeine

Yet we are still waiting to see Caffeine amidst rumours that the solitary data centre, where Caffeine was available, may have changed its IP address.

Could it be that Caffeine is experiencing some problems? Well no, not according to Matt Cutts again. Speaking at the recent SMX West he claimed that: “It’s just a nice thing to be cautious. You don’t want to roll out stuff willy-nilly when it’s a large re-write of your indexing infrastructure. There’s nothing that’s gone wrong, we’re still on track, and just trying to be careful to make sure we have high quality results.”

With these constant delays the pressure to release a top quality service is undoubtedly growing. But as Matt Cutts alludes to, they will only release Caffeine when they are a hundred percent happy with it – it’s not like some of their gimmicks and ad-ons anyway.
