When it comes to succeeding in search engine optimisation (SEO) it is the number of quality and relevant websites which link to a business's content that is the "main factor", one sector commentator has claimed.
Sam Tilston, marketing director of Memorybits.co.uk, gave the example of a website selling watches which would need to make sure there were a lot of high authority, watch-related sites linking to theirs in support of his comments.
"There are a variety of creative methods employed by search marketers to obtain these links. The best search marketers are those which have the best method of obtaining links," he added.
Mr Tilston added that search is the way users find information and products online, meaning it follows companies should be investing in SEO to ensure they can be easily located.
Without SEO, even if a firm boasted the best products and services on the world, no one would be able to find the site, meaning it would have minimal impact, he stated.
His comments come after a report by Conductor warned many of the Fortune 500 companies have been asleep at the wheel when it comes to search, with over half of the firms demonstrating almost no search engine visibility.
