Webmaster Central crucial for SEO

Google's Webmaster Central is critical when it comes to making a success of search engine optimisation (SEO), one sector commentator has claimed.

John Greer, in an article for Search Engine Watch, advises businesses they need to get to grips with it before they embark on an SEO campaign if they wish the marketing plan to be a success.

He explains the first stage is site verification, after which marketers will have access to all the keyword and link popular search information, among more data.

Mr Greer notes the functions likely to prove the most beneficial to newcomers include crawl error reports, XML sitemaps, internal and external link reports and geographical targeting to attract users to international sites.

Meanwhile, Yahoo! and Bing also have webmaster tools which should be utilised, he states.

"Signing up for all three search engine tools has become a must when launching an SEO campaign," claims, concluding it is important to regularly check for new site developments or available tools in order to stay ahead of the competition.

Dr Pete, in a post for SEOmoz, recently stated it makes sense for marketers to regularly check their search rankings for SEO success.
