Making money from SEO and digital assets

In order to make a success of digital assets, businesses have been urged to ensure they are using their digital assets to the best of their ability.

Herndon Hasty, in a post for the Search Engine Watch blog, explains for retail sites in particular, the "granddaddy of all digital assets" will be images, as these are one of the best ways of visualising what the products on sale look like.

He suggests offering a plain image behind any which are displayed in programmes such as Flash as this allows the search engines to index them - which could boost search engine optimisation (SEO).

"For those prepared to go deep into the rabbit hole, experiment with the metadata inside the images themselves to better associate them with branded and non-brand keywords," he adds.

Mr Hasty also recommends posting any video content on YouTube to promote the products further, while firms should also remember any white papers or similar documents they have could increase a company's profile by being crawl-friendly.

Rob Ousbey, writing for the SEOmoz blog, recently suggested competitions were another effective way of boosting the profile of a brand through SEO.
