Can SEO be boosted through Google News?

Each month, Google News sends around a billion "clicks" to the websites' of publishers across the globe, which may mean businesses wish to tap into the resource in order to improve their own search engine optimisation (SEO) efforts.
Indeed, Sam Niccolls, in a post for SEOmoz, said this fact makes Google's news rankings "an incredibly compelling" platform for sites which include contemporary content that is newsworthy.
He added one of the best things about the platform is that links do not only appear on Google News but can also feature within its organic search results - which publish the most popular related news stories to the search - which could also improve SEO.
Mr Niccolls explained news results are typically classified by both topic and location to give the most relevant material, using word recognition.
However, over using keywords should be avoided, he recommended.
"Google News is not a platform for every website or blog, but you also don't have to be a mega-publisher churning out ten articles a week to be Google News-worthy," he stated, explaining a business's website or blog in likely to be more newsworthy than they perceive.
Social Search was recently rolled out by Google, meaning friends' updates from social networking sites can now be featured in organic results.
