Video SEO can be successful when done right

Businesses which properly utilise video will find the medium is 53 times more likely to generate a first page ranking on Google than through using traditional search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques alone.

Such is the finding of a recent study by Forrester Research and Benjamin Wayne, writing in a post for Search Engine Watch, explains many organisations simply ignore video SEO.

He claims firms tend to either submit the website page where the video is posted, rather than the video itself, or they submit the assets of the video content to YouTube.

However, he warns it is a mistake to assume this latter course of action will generate SEO back to the original site.

Mr Wayne notes the advantages of using video SEO is that Google is starting to prioritise such content by placing it at the top of results and that some publishers have succeeded in getting first page results on the search engine for 25 per cent or more of their videos.

But submitting the videos correctly is advisable, as search engines are unable to find video content on their own, he adds.

Mr Wayne urges businesses to contact each search engine they are targeting for information on how to submit their videos.

When it comes to factors which could prevent SEO from being as effective, SEOmoz's Danny Dover recently pointed to websites which feature duplicate content across their pages.
