Internet Explorer - Microsoft's web browser - is likely to remain the leader in its sector for some time, one commentator has asserted, in news which may interest businesses working on a search engine optimisation campaign.
According to Net Applications, the race between the other internet browsers has been closer, with Google's Chrome overtaking Apple's Safari as the third most popular web browser in December.
While Internet Explorer leads the market with 62.69 per cent, Mozilla Firefox is second with a 24.61 per cent share.
Commenting on the news, John E Dunn, associate editor at Techworld, said Explorer is likely to continue to lead as long as Windows retains its dominance.
"It will continue to lose share but will remain the single most popular browser until a point where browsers in their current form are no longer what matters," he added.
Mr Dunn continued, one of the biggest threats to Windows is that browsers are "best seen" as an intermediate stage on the journey to more featured mobile devices.
