How social media marketing can help organisations

In addition to helping businesses boost a search engine optimisation campaign and attract new customers to their brand and services, social media marketing can also help charitable organisations, it has been stated.

In a recent blog post on Search Engine Watch, Nathania Johnson explains the inclusion of real-time updates in search results - with Google now including Twitter updates in its search results - arrived "just in time" for the people of Haiti.

The Caribbean nation was hit by an earthquake this week with a magnitude of 7.0 and hundreds of people are now feared dead.

Due to real-time updates, people from around the world can now keep up to date with the devastation and "more importantly" according to Ms Johnson, have information on the charities to donate to in order to help.

This is because Google, Bing, Yahoo! and Ask all provide useful information when searching the term "Haiti relief", while the first two include related search terms on their query suggestions and the topic has been the top trend on Twitter.

"It's nice to see millions coming together to help a country that desperately needs assistance. Real-time search and social networks are making that happen faster and more comprehensively than ever," Ms Johnson notes.

Google announced it would be including real-time search updates late last year.
