Businesses planning to launch a social media marketing campaign have been offered some advice on how they can get the most from Facebook.
In a blog post for eConsultancy, Chris Lake explains the site offers a "ready-made platform" to organisations to communicate with their customers as it boasts hundreds of millions of unique users - a resource that may be valuable to tap into.
He includes a presentation in his blog entitled 5 Facebook Learnings From The Top 50 Brands where Ben and Jerry's recommends companies recognise the difference between updates and spam.
Meanwhile, Papa Johns states users enjoy receiving free stuff, which can put brands ahead of their competitors, while Adidas advises using live streams to post events pictures or offer free invites in order to show consumers the firm's world.
And Dunkin' Donuts recommends showcasing fans on product or service pages.
The power of social media was recently demonstrated when a New York Times article reported retailer H&M had been caught shredding and discarding unsold garments.
Although the firm did not respond to the allegations, eConsultancy's Meghan Keane states the news spread on Twitter like "wildfire", prompting H&M to respond.
