New year's resolutions for SEO

Businesses have been urged to set themselves some new year's resolutions in the workplace as well as in their personal lives, focussing particularly on search engine optimisation (SEO) and other forms of search marketing.

In a blog for Search Engine Watch, Jonathan Allen states one such pledge could be to invest in online communities which have supported a firm's services or brand by carrying out research which could prove useful and publishing it.

Similarly, developers could be encouraged to contribute something back to their community, he added.

Creating good content should also be a resolution, Mr Allen noted, adding: "Build an audience through regular updates, whether it's daily, weekly, monthly or just a special event of the year that you always engage with, such as Valentine's Day, Easter or Advent."

SEOmoz's Dr Pete recently reminded businesses it is important their SEO resolutions are realistic, claiming aiming to get the number one ranking on Google may not be achievable.
