Any business with an online presence - which they may have built up through search engine optimisation (SEO) or social media marketing - should now be establishing the same presence on mobiles, one sector commentator claims.
In a post for Search Engine Land, Joshua Odmark states the web on handheld devices is "still in its infancy" but it is only going to grow, meaning companies should be taking advantage now.
He adds there are a number of reasons why this is the case, including SEO, explaining that while Google has a separate search index for mobile content, it is "fairly empty".
Mr Odmark notes the number of people accessing mobile internet is growing by the day and such online access is likely to overtake from the traditional desktop within the next five years.
"In the future, the vast majority of visitors to your website will be on a mobile device," he claims.
Recent statistics from Harris Poll revealed the average internet user spends a typical 13 hours a week online.
