While online marketing is continually evolving and while search engines come up with new criteria for ranking content, one sector commentator has noted the fundamentals of search engine optimisation (SEO) are still relevant.
In a post for Search Engine Watch, Herndon Hasty predicts that microformatting and rich snippets are likely to play an increasingly important role in SEO, with search engines attempting to compile more useful results.
Furthermore, Google is focussing on real-time updates, such as status updates on Twitter.
However, Mr Hasty adds that SEO fundamentals should "absolutely not" be thrown out of the window.
"It's more important than ever to make sure that your content is visible, authoritative and targeted to the right keywords," he explains.
He likens it to shop front windows, saying that although the means have changed - with electronic signs and TV advertising - the basics remain and that finding the front door is the most important aspect for customers.
Gizmodo recently uncovered an exploit which allowed it to view Google's new trial search page, where it claims search occurs at a significantly faster rate.
