Is link building most important part of SEO?

Link building has been called the most important component of search engine optimisation (SEO), by one sector commentator, who also stated that it can be the most difficult and time-consuming factor as well.

Mark Jackson, in a post for Search Engine Watch, said that a "firm foundation" of quality links can help businesses achieve their SEO objectives.

He advised: "If you care about your brand and care about using your domain for the long-term, you might want to just keep to a measured white hat approach to your link building activities."

Mr Jackson noted that ways of achieving this in order to build on SEO included making use of directory listings and distributing well-written press releases featuring keywords in the anchor text.

And his personal favourite method of natural link building is social media marketing and blogging.

The BBC recently revealed that it is to adopt SEO by altering its headlines to include more keywords.
