After claiming it was more interested in creating content which would be suitable for its loyal readership, rather than concentrating on search engine optimisation (SEO), the Mirror's gossip pages are reported to have had a turnaround.
According to the Econsultancy blog, the 3am site now crams its HTML title full of keywords in order to gain higher Google rankings.
This is after a Mirror spokesperson told New Media Age in September the newspaper would rather have an engaged readership than go "chasing numbers".
And Econsultancy claims that SEO and personality "don't have to be strangers" when it comes to creating content, but the secret is SEO category pages so that individual headlines can still be made interesting.
However, it warns that Google "frowns" upon loading a page full of keywords in a way that is clearly an attempt to manipulate rankings as this can result in a negative user experience.
"So stuffing every X factor and Britney keyword you can think of in the title runs the risk of Google banning your site and is generally not a great idea. Especially when you've got on your massive high horse about not doing SEO," the blog concludes.
