Time to begin Christmas marketing agenda

Businesses that have not yet begun their marketing campaign for Christmas have been advised that now is the time to get stuck into search engine optimisation (SEO) and pay per click.

In an article for Search Engine Watch, Carrie Hill says that although now will be a late start, there are still things companies can do to boost sales over the short term.

In terms of SEO, she advises that the best route is to choose long-term key phrases that will rank by building a page which contains the same keywords.

"You're better off investing in paid advertising to push sales through the holidays," she adds.

Ms Hill also recommends beginning a retargeting campaign to support seasonal sales by focusing on visitors who have already been to the site in order to boost sales figures.

Furthermore, she explains that email marketing still has "one of the highest conversion rates in online marketing", as long as the list is clean and targeted.

Peter D, in a post for SEO Book, recently stated that when embarking on a marketing campaign, utilising keywords is important as consumers who search for these terms will already have a "psychological attachment" to them.
