Businesses have been advised to use the local language for the region they hope to target when embarking on a social media marketing campaign in order to get the best results.
Tim Gibbon, co-founder and editor of the Social Media Portal, says that sites such as Twitter have increasing global appeal and it is likely there are going to be a number of languages appearing across popular search threads.
Such advice may prove useful after Google announced in its blog that it is to include real time Twitter updates in its search results, which may help to boost search engine optimisation for companies attempting social media marketing.
Mr Gibbon says: "Behaviour, culture and particularly language [have] a direct impact on how brands can be perceived and the way consumers interact with them. Users may not be able to be expressive [in a] dialect that may not be their first language."
He recommends that the importance of dialect is dependent on the target audience and that local languages can be essential to facilitating a greater appeal in niche and targeted services and products.
