Driving traffic through blogs

It used to be relatively simply for businesses and individuals to comment on blogs and include a link to their own site which could prove useful in terms of driving traffic and boosting search engine optimisation, one commentator has claimed.
However, Sage Lewis, in a post for Search Engine Watch, notes that these days, with people increasingly savvy about what constitutes spam, many bloggers have taken action to make it more difficult to post links on their content.
He claims that there is a way around this and that blogs which include a 'no follow' policy on comments - meaning that any links posted will not be supported by search engines - can still help to drive traffic through comments.
Mr Lewis recommends people post links which will be useful, relevant and on-topic can still generate a "nice amount of traffic".
He also advises looking out for blogs which do not have a no follow policy, saying: "These blogs generate traffic to your site by the readers of the blog and can also give you some extra value in the eyes of the search engines."
Social networks could also prove useful in terms of building traffic for social media marketing, with Search Engine Watch's Erik Qualman recently stating that allowing employees to use this in the workplace could prove useful for such a scheme.
