Search engine optimisation (SEO) requires "natural talent", according to Econsultancy blogger Patricio Robles.
The SEO columnist explains that it is quite possible for individuals to learn the technicalities of how to optimise their website content.
However, he adds that there are some experts in the field who, like footballer Ronaldo, have a natural affinity for the process.
"The truth is that there are naturals who just have a natural talent for putting it all together and getting to the top of the search engine results pages (SERPs)," he explains.
Mr Robles tells readers that they also face the decision of whether to focus on their own SEO efforts, or worry about their competitors' potentially black hat techniques.
He explains that some websites still succeed in reaching the top of SERPs through paid links - in contravention of Google's own guidance.
Google's Webmaster Tools include a form to report suspected paid links, allowing webmasters to inform the search engine of the websites they believe are selling and buying the links, in order for its search results to be improved.
