Businesses embarking on a search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign will find that this results in a good return on investment (ROI) for them, one sector commentator has claimed.
Sam Tilston, online marketing director for Zoombits.co.uk, said the main way to get the traffic needed to sell products was through search engines and could be achieved either through SEO or a pay per click campaign.
In terms of SEO, he explained that while businesses were investing for a longer term, after around six months they would be seeing a constant flow of traffic, which resulted in a positive ROI.
However, Mr Tilston added that, rather than simply concentrating on link building, firms should be attempting to get their content picked up by journalists so that their links can be shared on a high authority website.
"The whole thing is merging - if you write a good article that gets picked up by the press, then it affects your search position," he noted.
A recent report by Econsultancy and Guava revealed that 48 per cent of respondents reported that SEO ROI has increased in the last year.
