Google has announced that it has formed an agreement with Twitter to include the micro-blogging site's real time updates in its search updates, which may be good news in terms of search engine optimisation (SEO).
Marissa Mayer, vice-president of search products and user experience at Google, writes on the site's blog that she believes search results will "greatly benefit" from this data.
She explains that searches will now be enhanced by real-time observations, meaning, for example, people planning a ski trip will be able to find out snow conditions in the place they are visiting that day.
Commenting on the news, Danny Sullivan, writing for Search Engine Land, states that the new service is "way cool".
And Peter D on SEO Book asks how long Twitter can remain unsold now that Google has signed up.
In terms of SEO, he says: "It will be interesting to see if real-time search, on a Google scale, produces new business models. The traffic bursts should [be] ample reward for being seen first for popular real-time queries."
