Businesses which run search engine optimisation (SEO) and pay per click marketing campaigns may well be aware of the role keyword research plays in their success, but keywords should also play a part in the architecture of a website, it has been suggested.
Writing on a post for Search Engine Watch, Eric Enge says that keyword research is a "gem" of the online era and that there has "never before" been so much information available on the thinking of consumers.
He adds that when planning to launch a new website, businesses also need to consider how it will be structured in a way that is best optimised for keywords, useful to visitors and easy to use.
"The value of this [keyword] data is much greater. It can help you build a contextually rich site that users will love," Mr Enge states.
And from an SEO point of view, he claims that such data will cause search engines to view it as well structured and it is more likely to attract links.
SEOmoz's Randfish recently stated that in terms of SEO, businesses should consider both the user and the search engine if they wish to build a successful campaign.
