Google puts SEO in its place

Google is providing new ways for local search results to benefit from effective SEO, in the form of Place Pages.

A new feature accessible via Google Maps, Place Pages bring together multiple sources of information about a given location or geographical feature, making them available on a single web page.

Google explains on the Official Google Blog that the move comes in an attempt to remove the need to visit multiple different websites in order to learn more about a particular attraction or location.

One of the examples given in Place Page senior product manager Lior Ron's blog post is the life-size statue of Star Wars character Yoda which is located on Letterman Drive, San Francisco.

The Place Page for the Yoda statue includes its address, photographs, user-generated content and a link to the Lucasfilm website.

For webmasters, the user-generated content area could be a place to focus on improving SEO and ensuring that websites appear for any attractions or notable locations that they are geographically near to.
