Businesses running pay per click (PPC), search engine optimisation (SEO) or any other type of online marketing campaign should by now have ensured that their schemes are ready for the Christmas period.
Herndon Hasty, writing for Search Engine Watch, says that the job that now remains for companies is to carry out these campaigns cleanly and successfully, while adjusting to their fourth quarter results.
"Search should be a hypercritical part of this equation, no matter the size of your company," he adds.
For small businesses, Mr Hasty notes search is a "great way" to make sure a brand is targeted to all the impending Christmas shoppers, while for larger firms, SEO serves as a reminder of the brand.
And he states the build-up to the festive period is also a time to "ramp-up" a PPC campaign.
Following Christmas, the new year may be a good time for SEO, with a study by GroupM recently predicting online advertising will account for 15 per cent of global measured advertising spending in 2010.
