One "key" question remains to be answered in the social media marketing "battle", according to one sector commentator, which is how all the pieces interconnect.
Writing in a post for Search Engine Watch, Erik Qualman stated that it may be difficult for social media marketers to be experts in every recommended element, such as blogs, wikis, social networks, video sharing and so on.
However, he adds that "best-of-breed functionality" will be the winner over time.
He added that in the future, the question will be if it matters more where social media content is viewed, or whether it is more important if it is seen at all.
Furthermore, Mr Qualman explained that social media will be set to rely on the openness of the web.
Liana Evans, in a blog post for Search Engine Watch, recently advised that businesses need to get over their social media marketing fears.
She explained that there were a number of benefits for companies which adopt such a marketing strategy, including the fact that networks are increasingly providing users with up-to-the-minute search.
