Social media marketing is not something that is only applicable for business to consumer (B2C) companies, but business to business (B2B) firms as well, one sector commentator has claimed.
In a post for Search Engine Watch, Erik Qualman said that to think the principles of social media marketing did not apply to B2B was "flawed".
Indeed he adds that B2B customer relationships can often be stronger than those seen by B2C brands.
Social media allows companies to leverage closer engagements and hold real-time conversations with consumers, he said, which could serve as a useful compliment to face-to-face interactions.
Mr Qualman added that social media could be used to listen to customers and collect data and feedback, while also listening to what is being said by the clients of competitors.
"Discerning noticeable customer gaps will ultimately put you in a position to fill these gaps and win new business as a result," he added.
A report by Fresh Business Thinking recently revealed that 45 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises allowed staff to use social networks in the workplace as a form of social media marketing.
