Making PPC novice-friendly

Businesses which use pay per click (PPC) advertising as part of their marketing campaign have been advised that they need to make the text accessible to both industry professionals and novices, which may mean having two different ads.

Frank Watson writes in a blog for Search Engine Watch that he came to this conclusion after chatting to two of his nieces online - one who was age six and one who was 12.

He explains that because of this he targeted his vocabulary to each of the girls' individual ages, something that companies may need to do if they are looking to attract both new customers who are unfamiliar with industry jargon and the professionals who are.

Mr Watson advised that a firm's home page and its main category pages should always have varying levels of information, in order for the visitor to make the selection to the "conversation level" of their choice.

"The extra benefit of this is the additional content it provides and the more opportunities for appearances in the search results," added.

Blogging could be one easy way of putting out content on a business aimed at different consumer demographics and Search Engine Watch's Mark Jackson recently stated this could also be effective in search engine optimisation.
