As more people get online, many marketers are now aware of how effective blogging can be in terms of search engine optimisation (SEO), one sector commentator has claimed.
Mark Jackson, in a post for Search Engine Watch, said that while search engines "like" it when blogs are created against assigned categories, they "love" it when this content is promoted through social media marketing, leading to new customers and links.
But on deciding where a blog should reside, he claimed that this depended on what the firm wished to achieve.
A blog added to a subdirectory would demonstrate to the majority of search engines that fresh content as regularly being added to a website, but that if a company was more interested in developing links there are two alternatives.
The first is to post a blog in a subdomain, which allows the blog to be hosted in a separate location.
By posting it on a separate domain, meanwhile, Mr Jackson explained that search engines would read the content as being unbiased, rather than tied to a corporate entity.
A recent poll by SEOmoz revealed that in terms of SEO, 73 per cent of respondents voted that keyword-focused anchor text from external links was of high importance.
