Last week saw Twitter receiving more visits from UK internet users than MySpace for the first time, news which may prove useful to businesses preparing to launch a social media marketing campaign.
The figures by Hitwise reveal, that during the week ending August 29th, the micro-blogging site received one in every 400 UK internet visits.
This saw it being ranked as the 27th-most popular site, ahead of MySpace which was 28th.
Commenting on the figures, Robin Goad, research director at Hitwise UK, said: "If anything, Twitter is even more popular than our numbers imply, as we are only measuring traffic to the main Twitter website."
He explained that if users were accessing the site via a handheld device or third-party application, the numbers would be higher, although the same could be said for MySpace.
Facebook was found to be the most popular of the social networking sites in the UK, followed by YouTube and Bebo.
Search Engine Land's Matt McGee recently suggested that there was evidence to suggest search engine group Yahoo! may be interested in buying Twitter.
