The use of search engines around the world showed a significant increase of 41 per cent between July 2008 and 2009, new figures have demonstrated.
According to the research by comScore, the global search market garnered some 113 billion searches, which could be seen as good news for businesses set to launch a search engine optimisation campaign.
Leading the way was Google, with the group's sites attracting 76.7 billion of the searches conducted, a 67.5 per cent share.
While Yahoo! accounted for 7.8 per cent of the total market and Baidu - a Chinese search engine - saw seven per cent.
ComScore claims that most search engines saw "significant growth" over the course of the year, with Microsoft, Facebook and Russian search engine Yandex also within the top ten.
Commenting on the findings, Search Engine Land's Matt McGee said: "comScore says Europe as a whole does the most searching, with 32.1 per cent of all worldwide search activity."
