Microsoft's new "decision engine" Bing is struggling to keep hold of its existing user base, it has been suggested.
Indeed, while Bing is the default browser of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, many users are switching to Google instead, in news which may interest businesses set to launch a search engine optimisation campaign.
While 10.3 per cent of Internet Explorer users have Bing as their search engine, 74 per cent use Google.
A recent survey by Chitika listed Bing as third in the search engine rankings, behind Yahoo! and Google.
Commenting on the findings, Dan Oliver, editor of .net magazine, said this trend may have arisen from the fact that people trusted Google, its products and resources and that the search engine had spent millions developing its algorithm to achieve this.
"When a new search engine pops up I imagine that most people have been using Google for so long that if it's set as a default then they'll just easily switch it back," he added.
