A Labour MP has been assigned the role of improving the party's social media marketing campaigns, it has been reported.
According to the BBC, Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East, was awarded the position after being named the most influential politician on micro-blogging site Twitter and she will now be furthering the social media skills of her colleagues.
However, she has said that she will not be using her position for "picking fights" with Conservative-supporting bloggers.
Speaking to LabourList, Ms McCarthy stated: "Rather than being something completely new, campaigning using new media is simply doing what we've always done in a new setting."
She added that social media marketing is powerful as any politician suspected of "bandwagon-jumping" will swiftly be caught out.
Search Engine Land recently reported that Twitter appeared to be branching out further into search, by redesigning its homepage to look more like a search engine.
