Google has unveiled a new search indexing project, which may prove valuable news to businesses focussing on a search engine optimisation campaign.
Writing for the search engine's Webmaster Central blog, staff software engineer Sitaram Iyer and Matt Cutts, principal engineer, explain that a team has been working on the "secret project" for the last few months.
The project has seen the group creating a next generation architecture for Google's online search facility.
While the majority of users are unlikely to notice the difference, the pair state that web developers and power searchers are set to notice the changes and that they are hoping to receive feedback.
"It's the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions," they say of the project.
Commenting on the news, Search Engine Land's Vanessa Fox says that at first glance the underlying infrastructure alterations appear to have had an impact on user interface in relation to universal search.
