Avoiding the pitfalls of a site relaunch

As businesses increasingly focus on online marketing and make moves to stay ahead of the competition, many may take regular steps to review and relaunch their websites.

Duncan Morris, in a blog post for SEOmoz, notes that relaunching a site can be a worrying and crucial time and that there are a number of points to keep in mind when carrying out such an overhaul.

He reminds businesses to make sure they put 301 redirects from the old URLs in place so that regular users can still find the site and that analytics code should be added to every page.

Meanwhile, Google AdWords and ranking reports should also be updated.

And firms wishing to carry out a site relaunch in conjunction with a new search engine optimisation campaign may wish to take the advice of SEO Book's Peter D, who recently claimed that fundamental marketing principles may be a rewarding approach to take.
