Will Yahoo! changes affect search?

Search engine optimisation techniques may need to change if Yahoo! rolls out a new search page with the updated version of its homepage.

The company yesterday confirmed the launch of its redesigned homepage and possible changes to its search results pages were also aired.

Contributing editor at Search Engine Land Greg Sterling noted that while the search changes may not be introduced, modifications would see users being able to better filter the results they receive.

The new approach from Yahoo! relies on people adding their own filters and customising their search results pages, he said. It remains to be seen what effect such changes could have on SEO campaigns.

Mr Sterling also noted that it is unclear as to how such changes will tie in with Bing should a deal between the Yahoo! and Microsoft go ahead.

Possible changes to the search pages were revealed at the same time as Yahoo! unveiled its new front page, which has a customisable design that could allow quicker and easier access to social networking sites, among other things.
