The number of search queries directed through Microsoft's recently launched decision engine Bing showed growth, new figures which could prove to be of importance to search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns have revealed.
According to the data by comScore, Bing's share of search queries increased by 4.5 per cent during June from eight per cent in May.
ComScore's Andrew Lipsman suggested that queries would be higher in July after the site had benefited from a full month of usage.
He added that repeat users were now carrying out less search queries per session but that this may be a sign of people having a better experience with Bing than they did with LiveSearch, Microsoft's former search engine.
"Bottom line, Bing has had an initial positive impact on Microsoft's search position. However, one thing is clear: closing the gap with its competitors won't happen overnight," Mr Lipsman noted.
Bing has been proving successful in terms of pay per click (PPC) advertising, Adgooroo claiming that active PPC advertisers have been "holding steady" between 829,000 and 850,000.
