Crowd sourcing could be a way of bringing a web community together and getting things - such as a translation of content - done for a low cost and in very little time.
However, one commentator has asked if when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO) this is so beneficial.
In a post for Search Engine Watch, Andy Atkins-Kruger commented on the recent news that social network LinkedIn polled its users on what the best way would be to translate its interface in a way that would attract more global members.
And he added that Facebook is claimed to have translated is whole site into French in 24 hours using volunteers.
However, Mr Atkins-Kruger stated: "Does it make sense, when search engines' organic results are your most important friend, to outsource your translation and therefore your SEO to a bunch of well-meaning volunteers?"
Facebook may well have had a lot of volunteers when it came to its translation, as Anderson Analytics recently revealed that only 29 per cent of its users in a recent poll stated they could "probably do without" it.
