Facebook leading in social media

Facebook is noted as being the most valuable of all the current social networking sites in new research, which could make it an important tool in social media marketing.

The study by Anderson Analytics reveals that the majority of Facebook users would not be able to do without the site, while those using the portal were found to be more loyal to it than members of other social networks.

While 29 per cent of respondents admitted they could "probably do without" Facebook, this number rose to 43 per cent when questioned about Twitter and 35 per cent for MySpace.

Tom Anderson, managing partner of Anderson Analytics, said: "Our research shows that Facebook users clearly understand the value of their network."

Such news may prove valuable to businesses after research by Nielsen revealed that 90 per cent of web users trust recommendations for brands and services they receive from people known to them, such as friends on social networking sites.
