Pay per click (PPC) results can be boosted by placing a greater focus on geo-targeting, it is claimed.
In a post for Search Engine Watch, Melissa Mackey said that as more people turn to PPC, it can be a challenge to maintain a market share and so it is important to be creative in finding new cost-effective ways to increase this share.
She stated that one way of achieving this was through geo-targeted PPC campaigns.
"One of the great things about geo-targeting is the ability to bid on general terms that you can't afford on a national basis," Ms Mackey explained.
Using this to supplement offline advertising campaigns was a "great way" of building on brand awareness and promoting message recall among consumers, she added.
Yahoo! also recently asserted the importance of local search, with Noah Belson, the firm's content quality analyst, advising that local businesses should consider a geo-targeted PPC campaign as this would help them to locate potential customers in their area.
